All out Shetland sheep are coloured usually with patterned fleeces and as lambs they are really lovely. These sheep have not been altered by faming methods over the years so they retain their hardiness, ease of lambing and great mothering skills. It is not unusual to see a ewe attack a dog or fox and an old girl of mine, at the age of 12 dealt with the sheepdog, scaring him away! Not ideal for the dog's training!
The meat is very sweet and as they are not fed with grain, the fat content is higher in amino acids etc. the 'good fat' desired by all.
